What brings you the greatest joy in your life?
People. My husband, my children, my family, friends, and clients. I believe in community and being intentional in relationships. From the grandest celebrations to the most intimate couch and coffee conversations or morning snuggles (with my babies), serving and being in a relationship with others is my greatest joy.
What brought you to Tahoe?
My family loves the mountain region, and we desired to be closer to our families in California. Moving from Colorado, the Lake Tahoe region was a perfect spot for us.
What is a must-see hidden gem in Lake Tahoe?
One of my favorite little hikes is the Eagle Rock Trail on the West Shore. It’s an easy hike and provides amazing views of beautiful Lake Tahoe. I also am a huge fan of the many little coffee shops around. A fave is Tahoe House Bakery in Tahoe City. Gluten-Free goodies galore!
Describe Lake Tahoe to someone that has never been here.
Lake Tahoe is a crystal-clear lake surrounded by the majestic Sierra mountains. Owned by two states and 5 different counties, you can get a myriad of experiences depending on your mood. Head to the North Shore, like Tahoe City, Kings Beach, or Incline Village, if you want a slower-paced day. If you want some casino excitement, head to South Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is full of many small businesses that provide a Gilmore Girl vibe mixed with the Tahoe beauty and smell.
Tahoe lifestyle: winter or summer?
Summer all the way!
If you were not in the wedding industry, what would you do?
When I’m not planning and designing a wedding, I am busy being a mom to Audra and August and wife to Ryan. A huge joy for me. But, at this point in my life, I would probably be a counselor or life coach.
What inspires your work?
Serving others is first and foremost on my mind. That is my pathos always. Knowing that each person is worthy of being celebrated where not everyone has a background that is valued is huge to me. But I am also greatly inspired by the traditional design of English and European architecture and the bountiful natural beauty found in nature. My approach to event design is always strongly influenced by the principles of interior design.
What is a fun fact about your company?
We started in California, moved to Colorado, and now serve in the Lake Tahoe region.
What is the career highlight you are most proud of?
Our first full destination wedding in Boston. For this event, our clients lived in New York City, we lived in Colorado, and the event was in Boston. The whole event was planned long-distance while pregnant with my first child. But another fun career highlight was when I got to direct Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale (hey, High School Musical!) walking down the aisle. This was the wedding of Brant Daugherty (Noel Kahn in Pretty Little Liars) and Kim Hidalgo. It was fun to rub elbows with many actors and actresses during their wedding and then be published in People Magazine.
What is your go-to conversation starter with a potential client?
I always want to hear how the couple got together and all about the proposal story. Then we get into talking about the basic details of their event. Budget, guest count, design ideas, etc. It is a treat to get to know each potential client, and we can already start to gather ideas for elements that will make their day a unique celebration about them!
How would you describe the perfect day in Lake Tahoe?
Bringing all the summer vibes here - Ray-Bans and Rainbow sandals in tow. A perfect day in Tahoe would take place on the West and North Shore: a leisurely brunch at Tahoe House Bakery, a hike to Eagle Rock Trail, or spending the rest of the morning at Meeks Bay. Heading back to the cabin mid-day for a nap and a refresh and then a night on the town in South Lake. A good dinner and maybe try our luck at some of the casinos.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of being a wife and mom; My hubby and kids delight me daily. Cliche, I know, but they continually amaze me. I waited and prayed hard and long for them. I am also extremely proud of this business! It’s been a journey for sure, but it has brought some amazing fulfillment to my life’s purpose.
Who inspires you the most?
My circle. The people around me: My colleagues and my friends. I have so many people in my inner circle who continually live life bravely, from the mundane to the magnificent. I am also blessed to be inspired by many of my clients. They are brave, smart, kind, and capable people, and it’s so inspiring to see them fulfilling their dreams and life goals, too. I learn from them every day.
What is your life motto?
Love others and love God.
What’s the most useless talent you have?
Being able to whistle like 5 ways…
What is the closest thing to real magic?
Watching your babies discover life. It’s the simple things over here that bring magic every day.
What was your go-to activity during quarantine?
Baking bread and growing a baby.
What kind of wedding guest are you?
Give me all the wine and get me to that dance floor, baby! I am there to celebrate with my friends and celebrate well.
Any song you can add to our brides’ and grooms’ budding wedding playlist?
I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston is a fave on the dance floor!
Working in the wedding industry is not for the faint of heart. So how do you rest and rejuvenate?
While I’m definitely a fan of a good glass of wine, I’ve been working really hard at making sure I’m nourishing my body well. That means eating easily digested bio-available foods that are well balanced and nutrient-dense (hello minerals and vitamins!). I also am a big fan of unplugging, journaling and trying to get at least 10 minutes of non-stress-inducing movement every day.
What is something people might not know about you?
I’m a 6 ft tall blondie who was homeschooled before it was cool and am the second oldest of six kids. Cal Poly Slo is my alma mater, and I grew up performing in local musicals in the Bay Area. Tap, Jazz, Salsa, Swing, and Country line dancing all have my heart.
Any four-legged friends in your home?
We have two! Little Olaf is our poodle terrier mix. He will give you warm hugs all day. And Hallie is our all-white (oh the fur….) boxer pittie mix. With our little Audra and August, these two keep our hands and house full!
