Best of 2020: Microwedding

Microweddings may have been a thing before, but the covid-19 pandemic really put them on the map! Bigger than an elopement but more intimate than a larger wedding, microweddings often still include many of the elements of a 100+ person affair. (Read our popular post "Is An Elopement Or Microwedding For You?" for more about the distinctions.) One thing we learned for sure is that going small doesn't mean sacrificing a beautiful, dream wedding day. Scroll on to get inspired by our favorite microweddings of the year.

LOVE CONQUERS ALL

Matt Lim Photo

Like so many couples this year, Nique and Clint endured numerous reschedules and changed to their original wedding plans. Their event ultimately ended up much smaller but still included numerous special details. Despite the changes, Nique and Clint focused on the most important piece of the day: they were getting married! Surrounded by the ones they consider their closest friends and family, they proclaimed their love for each other & began a new life together.

FAMILY AFFAIR

Gagewood

There is something so special about narrowing your wedding down to just immediate family, as shown by this lovely microwedding at a private estate on Lake Tahoe. The expansive view of the lake really comes through too.

VOWS WITH A VIEW

Corinna Rose Photography

Another private estate microwedding, Allie and Walter took advantage of the home's spectacular deck for their ceremony and emphasized how relaxing it was to spend several days with just their closest family and friends. See the full microwedding here.

SWEETLY SOCIALLY DISTANCED

Mike Larson Photo

What was once supposed to be 250 chairs closely gathered at Meka and Nicki's wedding landed at spaced out seating for 25 when the resort's restrictions changed yet again just 9 days before the event. But all the stunning details remained in place, simply on a much smaller scale, and the result was a microwedding more magical than anyone could have imagined.

SUMMER RAINSTORM CEREMONY

With everything else that 2020 threw at engaged couples, what's a little summer rainstorm? This couple and their family (and their photographer) embraced the showers and were rewarded with an unforgettable forest ceremony.

RIVERSIDE ROMANCE

The riverfront setting for this microwedding was a beautiful reminder that, even when things are challenging, nature finds a way to keep moving forward. We can't think of a better metaphor for love and marriage!

ROLLING WITH IT

Holly Shankland Photography

This local Tahoe couple planned a secluded forest microwedding that reflected their sense of fun and adventure and created zones for guests who wanted to be "in the mix" or felt more comfortable on the perimeter. See the full wedding here.
