Getting Married in Tahoe This Month or Next? Here’s What You Need To Know
With the Caldor Fire impacting several communities in the Lake Tahoe Basin, your upcoming wedding may be affected. Scroll down for a few things you can do to navigate this confusing time.
BUY WEDDING INSURANCE ASAP
Speak to a wedding insurance agent to learn how to protect your investments and wedding expenses. We've been working with The Event Helper, and we can definitely recommend them!
EMAIL YOUR VENDORS
Let them know what you would like to do and give them time to respond. Please remember they are either evacuating or preparing to evacuate. This is a stressful and emotional time for all of us living in Tahoe and for those of you with upcoming weddings. Let's give each other grace and patience during this challenging time.
LOOKING FOR WAYS TO HELP?
Add a donation link to your website to a fund for Caldor Fire victims. You can support the community through your donation to the Caldor Fire Fund. In addition, to support Lake Valley Fire crews' immediate needs and efforts, you can donate towards Lake Valley Firefighter's Community Relief Fund. Also, check our stories daily for different funds.
DON'T PANIC!
We know there is no way to describe how difficult this is, but please be patient and think your decision through. All you vendors have postponed many weddings at this point and it is immensely easier and more efficient to do it when the couple is calm and nice to work with. Getting angry or aggressive helps nobody.
IF YOUR WEDDING IS IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE
SEPTEMBER
Postponements will need to take place. Email your vendors but don't expect a quick response. In addition to evacuating, they will also need to figure out an action plan for your wedding along with the many others they need to postpone.
OCTOBER OR LATER
Email your planner and venue to let them know your ideal plan A & B. Please be patient and do not expect a response. There are likely many other couples with dates earlier than yours, and your vendors are working under extremely stressful conditions.
IF YOUR WEDDING IS IN NORTH LAKE TAHOE
SEPTEMBER
Talk to your planner first, then your venue, and let them know your ideal plan A & B. It is definitely possible to safely have your wedding in an area not affected by the fire.
OCTOBER OR LATER
Sit tight and plan on having your wedding as initially planned. It is far too early to know what the coming days and weeks will look like.
Firefighters are working extremely hard to contain the fire! Stay calm and work with your vendors. You may be able to continue with your plans. Want to stay up to date with funds? Turn on your alerts for our account; we will be sharing more info in the coming weeks.
